  Erectile Dysfunction (ED) is the medical term for impotence and is the inability to get keeps an erection sufficient for satisfactory sexual activities. It is on rise due to increased stress in life.     According to data available, 1 out of every 10 men suffers from ED. In fact there are an estimated 100 million ED sufferers all over the world but only 10-15 % seeks treatment. American data (Massachusetts Male Aging) study shows that 52% of the men 40 to 70 year age group suffer from ED.       ED is seriously under –diagnosed and untreated worldwide.         Most common causes of Erectile Dysfunction:       1. Common medical conditions like Diabetes.   2. It is also associated with some medications used to treat certain conditions like Diabetes, Hypertension and Depression. 3. Life style factors like Smoking and excessive alcohol consumption. 4. Certain psychological conditions like stress and inferiority complex.     Erectile Dysfunction treatment:       1. Men with ED are at high risk for heart disease

    According to a Mayo clinic study, Men with Erectile Dysfunction are at 80% more risk to develop heart disease than men who do not have Sexual Dysfunction. Men in the age group of 40-49 who have Erective Dysfunction are 100% more risk than other age group men with ED.     According to an article published in the journal “Mayo Clinic Proceedings”, Sexual Dysfunction is a risk factor for Coronary heart Disease. But researchers failed to give sufficient explanation on why people with ED are at high risk of developing heart disease.     Possible explanations:     1. Loss of elasticity in the arteries – first in the penis but later the heart.     2. ED might have developed due to plaques in the penile arteries. Similar blocks may occur in the coronary arteries in the laster life.     Erectile Dysfunction risk gradually increases with age. Heart disease risk also increases with age. Above 60 age group men are at high risk for Sexual Dysfunction and Heart diseases.     Researchers conducted this study over 10 years and concluded that Sexual Dysfunction is a serious risk factor for heart diseases especially in middle aged men.     Health advice: If you are suffering from Sexual health problems, feel free to consult doctor without hesitation. Viagra and Sexual health in old people

The American Journal of Psychology recently published an interesting study on the mechanism of Viagra and other drugs for erectile dysfunction. Viagra (Sildenafil) not only increases blood circulation but also act hormonally (on oxytocin) to enhance sexual pleasure. Oxytocin is not only secreted during childbirth and lactation but also secreted during orgasm in both men and women.   Sexual statistics of old people:      The New England Journal of Medicine published a curious study after a survey on the sexual habits of 3,000 seniors. According to the survey, 75% of 57-64 old people had sex in the preceding year. 53% of 65-74 age group people had sex in the preceding year while only 26% of 75-85 age group people had sex in the preceding year.   Men are more sexually active in all age groups. Active men had sex 3 times a month or more. Reasons for not having sex are lack of partner or health problems.   50% of both men and women reported sexual difficulties like low libido, vaginal dryness for women and erectile dysfunction for men. Old age people rarely consult doctors for their sexual health problems.       If people follow certain precautions, we can stay sexually active for some more time.       1. We can stay sexually active if we can control diseases like diabetes, heart disease and hypertension.     2. Stay away from smoking. 30% of sexual dysfunction cases are due to smoking.     3.
